When the winter season arrives in the Northeast Georgia area, that means it’s time to check your furnace. You may be using your furnace in the morning to remove the morning chill and the air conditioner in the afternoon for when the temperature rises above that 75-degree mark.

That also means it is time for a SAFETY INSPECTION, which would include checking the furnace for proper flue venting, cleaning burners and heat exchanger, verifying all safety devices work correctly, and making sure it is running at peak performance.

Heat Pump Systems

GeorgiaSpec also performs maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance on Heat Pump Systems. It is checked for all the same reasons as an air conditioner, only the cycle of the refrigerant is reversed and the way it removed heat from the home in cooling mode, it will now add warmth to the home in the heating mode. It is a very efficient system and can condition a home just as well as a furnace, though many homeowners were never explained how to efficiently use a heat pump system.

Some people even have dual fuel systems where it has a heat pump and gas furnace for heating. This type of system gets checked twice. The system will get checked for all the necessary checkups and safety items pertaining to a furnace, and then again for the heat pump. Then verified that both can and will work together.

Carbon Monoxide Precautions

If you have a gas furnace, it is a system that burns gas for your heating, producing carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas, but, being colorless, odorless, tasteless, and initially non-irritating, it is very difficult for people to detect. Your gas furnace produces CO and if not checked to verify correct flue venting exposures at 100 ppm or greater can be dangerous to human health. It is necessary to have it checked correctly which would mean a GeorgiaSpec technician would check it with a Bacharach Combustion Analyzers and Gas Leak Detector.

GeorgiaSpec technicians are checking your home from the second they walk into it for the presence of Carbon Monoxide with the SENSIT P100 Carbon Monoxide (CO) Personal Monitor. When entering your home for a gas furnace inspection, we want to make sure that the air is safe to breathe for you and your family, as well as for our technician.

So, if in the past you have had another Heating & Air Conditioning (HVAC) company come out and spend 30-45 minutes on your Heating Inspection – then you did not receive a heating inspection! You had a filter change and a wave of their hand saying all was good. But was it really all good and safe? It is time for you to have a GeorgiaSpec technician come out and really check your gas furnace, and GeorgiaSpec means to really check it for proper safety and efficiency.
